SMS TEXT MESSAGES TO BE SENT VIA THE NHS APP FROM 6TH JANUARY 2025

Posted on:

As part of a 12-week pilot scheme, from the week commencing 6th January 2025, some messages from the surgery will be sent via the NHS app by default.

Messages that will be sent via the NHS App include:

  • Individual SMS (with or without reply enabled)
  • Individual questionnaire
  • Individual self-book link
  • Video consultation invite

We would advise all of our patients to download the NHS App and make sure notifications are turned on so that you receive these messages. If a patient does not have the NHS App downloaded or does not have notifications enabled, the message will be immediately sent via SMS.

If the message sent to the NHS App is not read within 60 minutes, the message will fall back to SMS.

To turn on notifications for the NHS app, please complete the following:

Log in to the NHS App

  • Select the Account icon in the top corner
  • Select Settings
  • Select Manage notifications
  • Follow the link to your device settings
  • Allow notifications

It can take up to 24 hours for notifications to take effect. If you use the app on multiple devices, you’ll need to allow notifications on each device.
